The Excise and Taxation Department has raided the Orbit Entertainers of a Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader in Moga. The resorts comprises of a multiplex, hotel, and restaurant. The department’s action came over alleged GST evasion and other irregularities, a report said.
A team led by Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner Harpinder Pal Singh Ghotra, conducted raids over the past two days.
An SAD leader Yogesh Goel and his relative Sanjay Kumar own the Orbit Entertainers. Sanjay Kumar is a Mumbai native. The Excise Department has issued a show-cause notice to Yogesh Goel and his partners, the report said.
The raiding team also took into its custody two main servers of their computer system. Besides, the team also took several record books pertaining to sales and services provided by the Orbit Resorts.
The management was not maintaining proper record
An Excise official said the resorts management was not maintaining proper computerised record of sales and services. From which it is quite evident that the resorts management was evading GST on a large scale, the report said.
“The data of computers has shown the records of sales and services for only one-day in the system,” the official said. He said the management of the resort was deliberately deleting the past records on a daily basis, probably, to forge tax records. The official said they are sending the computer servers to a government laboratory for the recovery of previous data.
The department was keeping an eye on the resorts for the past two months. The officials were also monitoring online bookings of hotel rooms through ‘Book my Room’, ‘Yatra.com’, ‘Make my Trip’ and other agencies/portals on a daily basis. It was done to verify the records of payments and confirmations, which would be matched with the GST deposited by them.
Ashwani Goel, a co-founder of Orbit Entertainers, said he no longer had any stake in the business after division. Ashwani’s elder brother Yogesh Goel, also a co-owner of the Orbit Resorts, could not be contacted.
