Mohali court imprisons two drug peddlers for 10 years

Two drug peddlers in Mohali were sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment by the court on Thursday for smuggling 10 kg charas (hashish form of Cannabis). The court of additional district and session judge Sanjay Agnihotri also fined them Rs 1 lakh each.

The convicts have been identified as Rajan and Gulam Nabi, both hailing from Malerkotla. Also, an additional sentence of one year was pronounced.

In May 2018, the STF (Special Task Force) arrested Rajan and Gulam Nabi from Mohali when they got the information that the two were heading towards Mohali from the Landran side to sell drugs. The STF then set up a checkpoint at Landran T- point and intercepted their car and recovered 10 kg charas packed in a bag. When interrogated, they both revealed that they buy drugs from Haryana and supply it to their customers in Mohali and adjoining cities.

The police in its charge sheet had mentioned that the accused confessed to have been involved in drug peddling from the past three years.
