A gang of five men robbed an owner of his car at gunpoint on Chandigarh-Baddi road, near Mullanpur barrier, on Monday night. In the past one month, this is the third such incident of carjacking in the tricity.
A 26-year-old man, Amandeep Singh, resident of Haripur in Nalagarh, told the police that he was going home from his hair salon in Sector 40-C, Chandigarh. A silver-coloured Maruti Suzuki Swift car stopped him near a petrol pump near Mullanpur around 8 pm.
“There were five men in the car. Three came out, two were armed with pistols and one with a rod. Pointing the pistols at me, they asked me to step out. When I did not, the rod-wielding man knocked at my car window. When I lowered the glass pane, he pulled me out, snatched the car keys and threw me on the road. They then sped away in my car. The other car followed them,” he said.
Amandeep told the police that the car had been following him from Chandigarh. After robbing his car, they went towards Punjab. He, then called up the police.
Mullanpur SHO Rajesh Asteer, said, “We are on the trail of the accused.”
A case have been registered.
