A Former Branch Manager of ICICI bank, Mullanpur branch(Mohali), Kulpreet Singh Makkar has been booked by the police. He had allegedly withdrawn Rs 1.36 crore from the saving account of 12 customers. A case of fraud has been registered against him. During his five-year tenure of working as a branch manager, he had withdrawn the said amount from 12 savings accounts.
The matter came to light when the account holders approached the higher bank authorities. The Deputy Branch manager lodged a complaint with Senior Superintendent of Police, Mohali.
Makkar misused the account details of these customers. He allegedly used to withdraw the money using forged documents and deposit the same into other accounts which he had created for fraud transactions.
Rajesh Asteer, Mullanpur SHO inspector said, a bank official had filed a complaint on April 24, 2018, stating that the manager allegedly committed a fraud of Rs 1.36 crore.
