The Hush Post: In connection with the alleged torture of some Sikh youths by the police in Sanour, near Patiala, demands are snowballing for stern action against the guilty police officials. Meanwhile, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has announced to gherao the Patiala residence of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on August 11 to demand justice for the victim youths.
Notably, recently a group of seven youths, who were on bikes, was stopped and tortured by the police in Sanour, near Patiala. One of the youths, a Sikh, was brutally and in an inhumane manner tortured by the police. When the matter was highlighted, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Narinder Singh was suspended in this regard and a departmental inquiry was initiated against the station house officer (SHO) of the Sanour Police Station.
But, not satisfied with this, the families, relatives, and supporters of the victim youths are continuously protesting and demanding more stern action against the guilty police officials.
The protesting people are demanding the termination of the accused ASI Narinder Singh, stern action against the Sanour SHO and also action against five more police officials who were also allegedly involved in the inhumane torture of the youths.
The protesters are demanding registration of a first information report (FIR) under section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for hurting the religious sentiments of the victims.
Former Union Minister and wife of CM Capt Amarinder Singh, Preneet Kaur met a victim youth at the Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala and assured an action in this regard. This youth has been admitted to the hospital with serious injuries on his body.
Meanwhile, SAD MLA from Sanour Harinder Pal Singh Chandumajra has threatened to gherao the Patiala residence of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on August 11 to demand justice for the tortured youths.
Similarly, SAD President and former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal while condemning the incident has said that the torture of the youths by the police shows that the police personnel have totally gone out of control in the state. The junior Badal said that nothing can be more deplorable than this inhumane and brutal torture of the innocent youths. He said that the CM has totally lost control over the police. Sukhbir Badal has demanded a stern action against the guilty police officials.
Meanwhile, the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) has formed a four-member team to look into the matter and submit a report.
