Declined by TV channels, first-ever Punjabi web series ‘Yaar Jigree Kasooti Degree’ becomes a big hit

The Hush Post: The first-ever Punjabi web series ‘Yaar Jigree Kasooti Degree’ ,it seems is here to stay. Running its third episode, its first episode alone garnered 8.8 million views.

The series revolves around the life of students at Punjabi University, Patiala. Most of the cast members are students themselves, apart from Punjabi actors Pukhraj Bhalla and Karan Sandhawalia.

It has been written and directed by Rabby Tiwana, the man behind its success. He holds a B tech degree in TV production and media technology from Centre For Advanced Media Studies, Punjabi University.

The shooting for the web series began in April 2017 and released on September 15 this year. “It was meant to be for television, but no channel took it up,” Tiwana told a national daily.

“Some found the quality poor, some had other issues, so, I finally gave the satellite rights to Troll Punjabi,” he said. Troll Punjabi is a web page started by him with the web rights with him.

He has also made ‘Dhee Da Siwa’, the first-ever one-take Punjabi short film, which even won him awards and recognition. He pumped in funds on his own for the web series after convincing his parents.

Yaar Jigree Kasooti Degree has eight major characters, including Tiwana’s juniors and friends. It will soon see the entry of new characters and love angles in the future episodes. The first season will have 13 episodes.

The original track of the web series has been sung by popular singer Sharry Mann. The music has been given by the popular Mista Baaz, while Sarang Sikander (popular singer Sardool Sikander’s son) has done the background score. The lyrics have been written by Karan Sandhawalia. Popular Punjabi actor-comedian Pukhraj Bhalla has been with Rabby since day one.
