Plan to kill me and Sukhbir, Prakash Singh Badal alleges in Faridkot rally

The SAD patriarch also accused the Capt. Amarinder Singh government in the state of instigating and encouraging radical elements.

The Hush Post: Former Punjab chief minister Prakash Singh Badal Sunday claimed that a plot was being hatched to eliminate him and his son Sukhbir Singh Badal. He was addressing the ‘Jabar Virodh Rally’ of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Faridkot.

The SAD patriarch also accused the Capt. Amarinder Singh government in the state of instigating and encouraging radical elements.

The veteran leader said that the police had informed him of a plot to assassinate him and Sukhbir.

“Today a guy was arrested with a pistol”, he said from the stage. “But we neither frighten others nor are going to be frightened by such reports or threats”, NDTV quoted him as saying.

Badal said that he was ready to sacrifice himself and Sukhbir for the cause of peace and communal harmony in the state.

It is pertinent to note that the ruling Congress and the SAD are at loggerheads in the state in the aftermath of the Justice (retd.) Ranjit Singh Commission report on sacrilege incidents in the state.

Earlier, the state government had denied permission to the SAD to hold the Faridkot rally, but the Punjab & Haryana High Court gave a go ahead with some riders. The rally was held amidst tight security arrangements as radical Sikhs continued to stage a sit-in against sacrilege cases in Bargari, about 40 kms away from the rally spot.

“The Congress’ objective is to fulfil its old dream of grabbing control of the Sikh shrines and historic religious institutions. The main target is the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee… that is why the Congress is using these so-called panthic outfits as their front men”, reported NDTV.
