Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh has expressed his willingness to receive Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthnam when he is released from Pakistani captivity on Friday. He said that it would be an honour for him to receive the IAF pilot who was captured by the Pakistani Army on Wendesday.

In a tweet, Capt. Amarinder Singh wrote, “Dear @narendramodi ji , I’m touring the border areas of Punjab & I’m presently in Amritsar. Came to know that @pid_gov has decided to release #AbhinandanVartaman from Wagha. It will be a honour for me to go and receive him, as he and his father are alumnus of the NDA as I am”.

Earlier, the Punjab CM also welcomed Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s announcement that the IAF pilot would be released as goodwill gesture.

Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthnam will be released on Friday via Wagah. He had scrambled the intruding Pakistani jets in his MiG-21 Bison on Wednesday. In the ensuing ‘dog fight’ his MiG 21 Bison, was taken down near the LoC and he landed in POK.

Various disturbing videos had emerged where Wing Commander Abhinandan was badly bruised and being heckled by men.

However, in subsequent videos the officer showed great courage and gumption.

He boldly answered questions put forth by Pakistan Army personnel while blindfolded. He was asked his name, his service number and his religion. However, he refused to answer certain questions related to his squadron saying “I am not supposed to tell you that.”

In yet another video, he is seen drinking tea and probably speaking to senior Pakistan Army officials. Here he is again asked a couple of questions. Wing Commander Abhi answers a few of them, but only at will.
