With winters nearing an end, there has not been a drop of rain in the plains of Punjab and Haryana. Come Sunday, there is good news for farmers and the common man. Rain is expected in the plains including Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana. The Met Department has predicted rain/thundershowers from January 20 to 24.
An active western disturbance and its offspring circulation will start affecting North-West India from Friday. The offspring circulation is expected to shape up over South-West Rajasthan, and will move across Punjab and Haryana by Tuesday next.
A wet spell of moderate intensity is likely in parts of Punjab and Haryana, including Chandigarh, from January 20. It will increase in intensity between January 21 and 24. The spell may be accompanied by hailstorm, the Met Department said.
The weather is expected to remain mainly dry afterwards.
Isolated heavy to very heavy rain/snowfall may break out over Jammu & Kashmir from Sunday; over Himachal Pradesh from Monday; and isolated heavy rain/snowfall over Uttarakhand on Wednesday and Thursday. The peak activity is likely to unfold from Sunday to Wednesday. Under the influence of the offspring circulation, isolated rainfall will commence over Punjab from Sunday.
More snow expected in Kashmir, Himachal
The Meteorological Department has also predicted another spell of moderate to heavy snowfall in the Kashmir region from Saturday onwards.
With the western disturbances likely to affect the region, the officials have also warned of disruption of road, rail and air traffic from Saturday morning.
