The cash-crunched Punjab government has decided to hike the registration fees of documents in the state. The Punjab cabinet has given its go ahead to double the registration fees for various documents. The documents are related to a number of Sale Deeds under the Registration Act, 1908.
The state cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, increased the fees of all the Articles of Article of Table of Registration Fees under the Registration Act, 1908. However, the Articles under Article 1 (b) related to all compulsory register-able documents (other than leases of immovable property) have been kept out of the ambit of the cabinet decision.
Accordingly, the fee under Article 1 for the registration of non-testamentary document relating to immovable property has been increased from present Rs. 200 to Rs. 400. Similarly, the fee for all compulsorily Register-able documents (other than leases of immoveable property) has been increased to Rs. 400.
Registration of Wills has become costlier by Rs. 2000. It will now cost Rs. 4000. Besides, the fees for registration of special power of attorney, general power of attorney has also been doubled. The registration of adoption deed and Trust deed has become dearer.
The rates for making or granting of copies of reasons, entries or documents in English, Urdu, Punjabi or Hindi, before on or after registration have been increased two-fold.
