Four students were burnt alive in fire, when their school van caught fire. The incident took place in Longowal of Sangrur district, Punjab.

The students were studying in Simran Public School.

Eight school children were extricated from the bus which was already on fire. All the students were in the age group of 4 to 10 years.

At the time of the incident, when the van was being driven it was already on fire. The driver of the bus did not realise that the van was already burning from behind. By the time it was stopped four children could not be extricated and were burnt alive.

According to the eye-witnesses, the van was in a bad shape and not in a condition to be driven.

The eight children who were evacuated were saved by the people working in the nearby fields. Pertinently, this van was put to use for the first day today and was bought by the school yesterday itself.
