According to some eyewitnesses, the boys failed to notice the train coming.
The Hush Post: Selfie craze proved fatal for two teenage friends in Ludhiana who were mowed down under a speeding train on Sunday. Yuvraj Sindh and Gaurav Kumar, both aged 15, of village Rampur were clicking a selfie on a rail overbridge when a train plying on the Ludhiana-Chandigarh route ripped them apart. The incident took place near village Katana Sahib in Dohra. One of their friends was lucky enough to have a narrow escape. He had fled the spot after the incident and didn’t disclose it to anyone.
It is reported that the bodies of Yuvraj, a class VII student and Gaurav, a class VIII student were spotted by commuters who informed the government railway police (GRP). According to some eyewitnesses, the boys failed to notice the train coming while taking photographs on the overbridge which is constructed over a canal.
Yuvraj was the only child of his parents. Gaurav’s father is a tailor by profession.
The GRP has launched an inquiry into the matter. GRP assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Raghwinder Singh said no mobile phone or camera has been found from the spot. The GRP suspect that the friend who escaped the incident might have taken the gadget along. The third boy is yet to be identified.
“After the incident, we made announcements in the surrounding villages for the identification of the victims. In the evening, two families contacted the police and identified the bodies,” Hindustan Times quoted
According to the families, the victims had gone to pay obeisance at Gurdwara Degsar Sahib Patshahi Dasvi at Katana.
Meanwhile, Yuvraj’s family has requested that he post-mortem be delayed as his father lives in Dubai and will take some time to reach home.
