On Monday, senior Shiromani Akali Dal Badal leaders were taken into preventive custody. They were taken into custody after they clashed with police while protesting outside Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s residence. The protest was made against the“distortion” of Sikh history in school textbooks.
Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal, former minister Bikram Singh Majithia, and MP Balwinder Singh Bhunder were among the Akali leaders placed under preventive detention. The protesters tried to break down the defensive barricades set up outside the Chief Minister’s residence. Initially, police failed to stop the marchers. Later, the police parked buses in front of them, leading to a scuffle with top Akali leaders.
