The Hush Post: Shahkot by-elections will take place on May 28 and the results will be declared on May 31.
Nominations can be filed May 10 onwards while nominations can be withdrawn till May 14.
The Shahkot seat had fallen vacant after SAD(B) MLA Ajit Singh Kohar’s death. SAD(B) candidate for the elections is going to be Naib Singh Kohar, son of Ajit Singh Kohar.
Congress is yet to declare its candidate and so is Aam Admi Party. Akalis have won Shahkot seat since 1997. AAP’s Aman Arora has said that they are prepared for the elections. “Our process for the elections is on. I think in another week we will announce our candidate.”
Shahkot seat will be interesting since the Congress is in power but the seat has always sent an Akali candidate to the assembly in the last five elections.
