The Hush Post: Two policemen were crushed to death by speeding SUV in Amarkot Village of Tarn Taran district in Punjab on Sunday. According to the reports the SUV dragged both of them for around 100 metres before coming to a halt. The driver of the SUV immediately fled the spot.
The deceased have been identified as Inderjit Singh, head constable with Punjab Police and Punjab Home Guard (PHG) constable Kuldeep Singh. Both were deputed on a check-post near bus stand in Amarkot, about 50 kms from Tarn Taran.
The Toyota Innova SUV belongs to Karaj Singh of Dasuwal village. Karaj Singh is the brother of local Congress activist-leader Saraj Singh.
Saraj was wanted in connection with the recovery of 5 kg of heroin in Bhura Kohna village in April 2015. Three drug peddlers were arrested in the case while Saraj continued to be absconding.
The police have booked the unidentified driver on the complaint on deceased Inderjit’s brother Arjun Singh, who was present at the spot at the time of the incident.
“The deceased were deployed at Amarkot. At around 12:30 am, the duo gave an indication asking the SUV to stop, which was coming from Rajoke. Instead of making a halt, the SUV driver crushed the cops and dragged their bodies for a few metres. The SUV then hit an electricity pole and stopped”, Hindustan Times quoted Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sulakhan Singh Mann as saying.
Their dead bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
