The Hush Post: In the Punjab Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti poll results, Congress is heading towards comfortable victory.

Punjab Rural Poll Results 2018: Congress party workers in Punjab started celebrations after their party’s winning performance in Block Samiti and Zila Parishad elections.

The ruling party in Punjab has won 14 Patiala panchayat samiti and seven in Bhatinda district. The Congress is also leading in Jalandhar and Ludhiana. The Grand Old Party is heading for victory in the Punjab local elections after a gap of 10 years. The main contest is between the ruling Congress and the SAD-BJP alliance, a report said.

The ruling Congress won 14 seats in Patiala, SAD won two. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) failed to open its account. In Bathinda district, Congress won seven out of 10 seats. The SAD on and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) won one seat. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recorded its first win in Fazilka.

The Congress and SAD workers clashed in several areas during the elections. The opposition had levelled allegations of poll rigging by the ruling party.

In Muktsar, the police had booked former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal and several SAD workers on the complaint of a Congress worker, the report said.
