Thunderstorm & squall strikes north India, speedy winds in parts of Haryana, power cut-off there

The Hush Post: Thunderstorm and squall has struck parts of northern India. Apart from Haryana, Delhi government has also decided to partially close down schools on Tuesday.

Meanwhile Haryana has cancelled leaves of officials in municipalities after a weather department forecast warning them of thunderstorm and squall in many parts of northern India. At some places, the wind speed could go up to 50-70 kilometres per hour.

Himachal &Uttarakhand: Rain has started in many places including Manali and Shimla. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD)  thunderstorm, accompanied by squall and hail, is likely at certain places in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on May 8. Such conditions may also be reported at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh.

Haryana: Lightning struck at a house in Sirsa, however, no casualty has been reported. Thunderstorm has started in Rohtak, Hisar, Mahendragarh, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri Kaithal and Ambala. Electricity supply has been cut off in several parts of Haryana to prevent any disaster. Though, there is no need to create any panic.

Punjab:  Propelled by fast winds, there has been fire which spread to adjoining areas at a village in Rajpura, Patiala

Chandigarh: It has started raining in the tricity of Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula.

The Met department has been updating on the weather forecast regarding bad weather ever since more than 120 people lost their lives and more than 300 were injured in five states due to thunderstorms, squall and lightning last week.

Fire and other services of emergency have been directed to remain on alert.

According to the IMD, thunderstorm, accompanied with gusty winds, is very likely in some places over Punjab, Haryana, peripheral Delhi, NCR region. The thunderstorm is also likely in the east in Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Bihar, western Madhya Pradesh, east Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan.
