Jabalpur-Ajmer Dayodaya Express derails near Jaipur, no casualties

The Superfast Dayodaya Express derailed near Jaipur on Friday seriously injuring the Loco Pilot. Several passengers were also hurt in the accident. The Dayodaya Express was on its way from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh to Ajmer in Rajasthan.

According to media reports, the accident occurred on the Sawai Madhopur-Mumbai track near Sanganer Railway Station, 15 kms from Jaipur, at around 1 pm.  All of a sudden the engine of the Dayodaya Express overturned and the two immediate coaches after it derailed.

Loco Pilot Khemraj was grievously injured in the incident while his assistant Vijay sustained minor injuries. Many passengers were injured in the accident; however no serious case was reported.  The accident led to the blockage of the Sawai Madhopur-Mumbai track. The incident led to partial cancellation of three trains and diversion of two others.

The reasons of the derailment are yet to be known. The Railways has announced and inquiry into the accident.
