Two-time Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlaut will be the next CM of Rajasthan. After the meeting of Rahul Gandhi with Sachin Pilot and Ashok Gehlaut, it has now come to light that after deliberations Ashok Gehlaut will finally be the Rajasthan CM. As per sources, Sachin Pilot has been taken into confidence. The announcement will take place at 4:30 pm in Jaipur today.
A post of deputy chief minister was offered to Pilot. However, there is no word on whether Pilot has agreed to taking the number two position.
1951-born Gehlaut is a Science-cum-Law graduate. He first became the Chief Minister of the state in 1998 and then in 2008.
Sachin Pilot is former Congress leader Rajesh Pilot’s son. He traditionally had a stronghold in Gurjar community. However, he was a widely accepted figure by 2018 in the Rajasthan Congress. He was an MP from Ajmer in 2009 but lost in 2014 from the same constituency. However, this time around he won the elections from Tonk Vidhan Sabha constituency. Though, in the race for chief ministership he seems to have lost since Gehlaut also has the support of independent candidates in the absence of a clear-cut majority to the Congress in the state.
