The Hush Post: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is likely to field its general secretary Rattan Singh Kakkarkalan as the party candidate for the byelection of Shahkot Assembly constituency.
At a meeting of the party’s Punjab unit held on Saturday, a consensus had been arrived at on the name of Rattan Singh Kakkarkalan and a formal announcement about his candidature as the party candidate is likely to be announced soon. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of party’s Punjab affairs in-charge and deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodiya.
There were as many as four aspirants for the AAP ticket in the fray for contesting the Shahkot bypoll but a consensus was arrived at the name of Rattan Singh Kakkarkalan, who is a farmer by profession and has been associated with AAP for the last four years.
The Congress has announced Hardev Singh Laddi as the party candidate for the Shahkot bypoll. Laddi has recently been mired in controversy due to an alleged sting operation. But undeterred by the Laddi’s criticism, the Congress has taken the courage to announce him as party candidate for Shahkot Assembly constituency bypoll.
Meanwhile, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has already announced Naib Singh Kohar as party’s nominee for this bypoll. Naib Singh Kohar is the son of former SAD minister Ajit Singh Kohar, the incumbent MLA from Shahkot Assembly constituency after whose death, the seat got vacant which necessitated byelection.
