Opposition party members chanted shame-shame in Rajya Sabha when former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi started taking the oath of office as Rajya Sabha member.

Later they staged a walk-out. Trinamool Congress Party leader Mahua Moitra said that he has done it for a house in Delhi. She also said that Justice Gogoi has a chequered history given that there were accusations of sexual harassment against him. Now, the woman who was the alleged victim has rejoined duty raising concerns about the inquiry.

Gogoi has become the RS member within four months of his retirement which raised questions about the nomination. Earlier Justice Jagannath Misra and Justice Hidayatullah also were nominated to RS as Congress members.

Interestingly, Gogoi is the son of Kesab Chandra Gogoi of the Indian National Congress. Gogoi Sr was the chief minister of Assam in 1982 for a brief period of two months. The vacancy was created due to the retirement of KTS Tulsi at the end of February.
