The situation on the LoC can escalate and the Indian Army is all set for an escalatory matrix. Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat said this today.
The outgoing chief’s comments come in the backdrop of spurt in ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir. There has been a increase in the number of ceasefire violations since the abrogation of Article 370 in August.
“The situation along the Line of Control can escalate any time. We are ready for an escalatory matrix,” Rawat said.
RISE IN CEASEFIRE VIOLATIONS
Notably, Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy last month said something on similar lines in the Lok Sabha. “950 incidents of ceasefire violation along the LoC from across the border in Jammu and Kashmir were reported during August 2019 to October 2019,” he had said.
General Bipin Rawat will retire on December 31. Lt. Gen Mukund Naravane will replace him as the next Army Chief.
