The Hush Post: Arjuna Awardee Table Tennis player 24-year-old Soumyajit Ghosh has been accused of rape. Accused Soumyajit Ghosh has represented India at 2012 and 2016 Olympics.
The accusation comes from an 18-year old girl. An FIR has been registered against Ghosh in this regard Barasat Women Police Station in West Bengal. To make matters worse for the player, the girl has accused him of forcing her to get an abortion too.
“We have received a complaint against table tennis player Soumyajit Ghosh and have started an investigation. The details can’t be revealed,” said Barasat additional SP Abhijit Banerjee.
The accused minor girl claimed that Ghosh had dated her for over three years after meeting her on social media. Post this, they continued meeting each other at Ghosh’s flats in Kolkata and Siliguri.
The complainant has claimed that she and Ghosh dated after meeting over social media three years back, after which they met at his flat in Kolkata and in Siliguri. According to the complainant, Ghosh had promised to marry her, but he later backtracked.
“We were in a relationship since last three years, during which he raped me. He also promised to marry me, but refused later,” a news agency reported quoting the complainant.
The media in Bengal has corroborated the story filed by the news agency of Ghosh being accused by a girl of rape and forced abortion.
Ghosh is at present in Germany preparing for the Commonwealth Games (CWG) which are slated to start in Australia on April 4.
