The Hush Post: Cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur is all set to join Punjab Police as DSP on March 1, following the waiver of her employment bond by the Indian Railways in response to the persistent efforts of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. The state government has received a formal communication from the Railways about the waiver of the bond, thus paving the way for Harmanpreet to take over as DSP – something she had always aspired to be.
A spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said the Railways had sent a letter to the government conveying their acceptance of Captain Amarinder’s request for bond waiver to enable the cricketer to realize her dream of becoming a police officer.
The Chief Minister has expressed his happiness over the development, saying that the state was proud to have Harmanpreet as part of its police force, and said he was confident that the young girl would continue to excel herself and do Punjab proud.
Captain Amarinder has also thanked Union Minister Piyush Goyal for accepting his request, said the spokesperson, pointing out that the Chief Minister had personally taken up the matter with the minister, urging him to accept Harmanpreet’s resignation from Railways to allow her take up the DSP post in Punjab.
The Chief Minister had offered the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) post to Harmanpreet in July last year, following her scintillating performance in the Women’s World Cup 2017. Since then, the young girl has delivering a series of excellent shows in various tournaments.
Described by many as the game changer for the women cricket team, Harmanpreet had urged Indian Railways to relieve her after she was offered her dream job by the Punjab Chief Minister. It was eventually the personal intervention of Captain Amarinder that facilitated the waiver of the employment bond that had tied the cricketer to the Railways.
