South Africa beat Australia and turned the tables in the 2019 World Cup, not really consequential in terms of qualifications but the top four positions have been altered in favour of India temporarily.
Now India leads the table followed by Australia, England and New Zealand. This means that India will take New Zealand and Australia will play England. Till now, it was believed that India which was at number two will play England and Australia will play New Zealand.
Now India meets New Zealand on July 9 at Manchester, the very venue where Proteas beat Australia today.
South Africa made 326 runs in the stipulated 50 overs. Batting second, Australia came to bat and David Warner stablised their innings with a solid 122 followed by Carey who contributed 85 runs. However, no other player came good apart from the two of these.
Earlier Faf du Plessis made 100 runs batting first for SA. Later, Usman Khawaja, who had a hamstring injury came back after Australia was found struggling but got out soon. After that came a string of wickets and Proteas sealed the match with 10 runs win, the first really satisfying win as they stood tall over the kangaroos, who had been standing tall till now.
