Almost all the cricket fans –especially those on Twitter– are speculating about former India captain’s likely retirement

The Hush Post: Normally it happens whenever Team India or, for that matter, any team loses any cricket series, everybody starts criticising the losing team. But, when India lost the ODI Series to England 2-1, not many were speaking about India’s loss. But almost all the cricket fans –especially those on Twitter– are speculating about former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s likely retirement from the team (Dhoni now plays only ODIs and T-20 matches).

The cricket fans are making such speculations as Dhoni was seen taking the Match Ball from one of the umpires when England beat India by eight wickets in the third ODI on Tuesday at Leeds and won the three-match ODI series 2-1, a report said.

On the television broadcast, even as the pundits analysed the performances after the game, it was a few seconds of post-match footage that’s set Twitter ablaze. Former India captain Dhoni was seen taking the match ball from the umpires while walking back to the pavilion which has now led viewers to believe the 37-year-old would announce his retirement from international cricket, the report said.

Earlier, in the second ODI against England on Saturday, MSD was booed by a section of the Indian fans in the stadium after he failed to accelerate during India’s chase of England’s 322 for 7. Dhoni scored 37 off 59 as India lost the match by 86 runs.

At Leeds, on Tuesday, with other batsmen falling at regular intervals at the other end, the India keeper ensured that the team remained stable from one end of the crease as he scored a 42-ball-66. But, with India losing, some critics once again focussed only on the keeper instead of India’s middle order’s collective failure, the report said.

The above pictures are what got a lot of social media users worried about the former skipper’s immediate plans. However, at 37, this could also simply be MS Dhoni taking memorabilia from what is likely to be his last bilateral series outing in England, it was reported.

India are however slated to play the ICC Cricket World Cup in England next summer and even Indian chief selector MSK Prasad has gone on record in the last year to say MS Dhoni will be the team’s number one choice for his slot and behind the wickets.

MSD Retirement 4

Dhoni now plays only in the ODIs and T20 formats of cricket post his retirement from Test cricket on December 30, 2014 during India’s tour of Australia, the report said.
