Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi is not new to controversy. This time around he has confessed of smashing a Television at home. And the reason might not go down well with the people in India. Shahid has made this confession while speaking to TV host Nida Yasir.
Pertinently, it is an old video, but has gone viral on the social media. The video also assumes significance in the wake of the current binary over secularism in India.
In the video, Shahid Afridi says that he broke his television after seeing his daughter trying to imitate an aarti scene as performed on an Indian soap.
When asked by the host if he has ever smashed his TV, Shahid says in the video, “I smashed my TV once, because of my wife. These daily soaps on Star Plus were quite popular then. I had asked by wife to watch them alone and not with the kids. I saw one of my kids performing aarti while watching a Star Plus show. I then smashed the TV inside the wall.”

The Pakistani all-rounder has attracted criticism for his remarks. Many watchers believe Shahid made fun of the Hindu ritual.
Notably, another Pakistani cricketer Shohaib Akhtar has alleged that his teammate Danish Kaneria faced discrimination at the hands of a few Pakistani cricketers. He has alleged that some of the team members were reluctant to even eat with Danish Kaneria because he was a Hindu.
