The Hush Post: At Nagpur, India posted their first win against Sir Lanka beating the visitors by an innings and 239 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin also became the fastest man to clinch 300 wickets in Test cricket when his ball skidded past Gamage and kissed the edge of the off stump. Ashwin reached his 300th scalp in 54 matches. Before this the record to reach fastest 300 wickets was with Dennis Lillee of Australia, who reached here in 56 matches strangely on this very day 37 years ago, and then Muthiah Muralidharan who reached his 300th in 58 matches.
Interestingly there was a bit of a contest between Ashwin and Umesh Yadav, the latter wanted to pluck his 100th but couldn’t as Ashwin walked away with Gamage’s wicket. Yadav will have to wait for the next match.
Earlier, chasing a massive target of 610, Sri Lanka after an irresponsible show of batting were struggling at 145 for the loss of eight wickets. The complete Lankan lineup was tottering with only Dinesh Chandimal showing some courage in the face of adversity. Chandimal scored a well deserved half century. Yesterday, riding on a Kohli double ton India scored a massive 610 and declared the innings and invited the visitors to bat. Meanwhile, in the Ashes, Australia crushed England by 10 wickets to win the Gabba Test. Now they are one-up after the opener.
