The Hush Post: The Kolkata Knight Riders defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 4 wickets in their inaugural match in the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League. Chasing a decent total of 177, the local team managed to eclipse the visitors’ score in 18.5 overs.
The match was an action packed affair which saw the King of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan cheering his team and some impressive performances by AB de Villiers, Brendon McCullum, Mandeep Singh, Dinesh Karthik and Sunil Narine.
However, what stood out was the fact that when Bangalore and India team skipper, Virat Kohli came out to bat, it suddenly seemed as if the Kolkata fans had suddenly switched allegiance to the visiting side. Chants of ‘Kohli, Kohli’ rang across the stadium, and indeed, it felt as if one half of the stadium was cheering Kohli while the other half was cheering the Kolkata side.
Riding on the back of the massive support he got, Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli did not disappoint, as he played a crucial innings of 31 runs to steady the Bangalore side and helped his side post a respectable total of 176.
After the match, much to the fans’ delight, King Khan and Kohli met and hugged each other, leading to a frenzy of cheering and applause from the stands of the stadium.
Shah Rukh Khan and Virat Kohli enjoy a strong friendship, with the Bollywood actor being present at Virat Kohli’s wedding reception in Mumbai where the Indian skipper got married to actress Anushka Sharma.
