The fans of MS Dhoni vented fury after the selectors didn’t pick him for the Windies and Australia T20I series. The Indian cricket selectors pulled off a major surprise by leaving out Dhoni from two upcoming T20 series.
The BCCI on Friday announced the India team for the Twenty20 international series against the Windies (home) and Australia (away). While the selectors have rested skipper Virat Kohli for three T20 matches against Windies, they have not picked Dhoni.
The selectors have excluded the wicketkeeper from both the T20I teams. In his place, they have picked up youngster Rishabh Pant.
However, chief selector MSK Prasad has dispelled talk of Dhoni’s retirement. He assured the fans that this was not the end for the former India captain in T20Is.
But, Prasad made it a point to say that the selectors are looking at backup options behind the stumps. “Dhoni is not going to play the 6 T20Is because we’re looking at the second keeper slot. It is not the end of Dhoni in T20Is,” the chief selector said.
Since the start of T20 format, India have played a total of 104 T20I matches. Dhoni has been part of 93 of those matches. Dhoni led India to the T20 World Cup title in the inaugural edition in 2007. He has scored 1,487 T20I runs at an average of 37.17 and a strike-rate of 127.90, reports said.
