The Hush Post: India won by 23 runs against South Africa in the first T20 match of the tour but most were oblivious of the fact that Mahendra Singh Dhoni broke a world record.
Former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni broke a record on Sunday in the T20 game against South Africa surpassing Sri Lankan player Kumar Sangakkara’s record of most number of catches by a wicketkeeper in T20 format.
It was Reeza Hendricks batting when he edged the ball to Dhoni, who was quick to lap up the record 134th catch of Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s bowling.
Sangakkara took 133 catches in 254 matches, while Dhoni took it in 275th match. Third on the list is India’s Dinesh Karthik followed by Kamran Akmal of Pakistan who has taken 115 catches in 211. He is followed by West Indies’ Denesh Ramdin who has taken 108 catches in 168 matches. Considering all formats of the game, the former India captain has done 775 dismissals in 495 matches. He is third in the all-time and all-format list behind the South African Mark Boucher and Aussie Adam Gilchrist. After India’s 23-run win over South Africa in the T20 opener, Dhoni joined some of his teammates for a dinner, walk and selfie. Those at the dinner table were Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Suresh Raina. While, Axar Patel, Mohammad Shami and Jasprit Bumrah took a selfie later with legend wicketkeeper as memento.
