The Hush Post: If India win the Test series against Sri Lanka, they will be one of the three best ever sides to play cricket along with Australia and England based on the records.
Australia won nine consecutive Test series between 2005 and 2008 while England achieved the same feet between 1884 and 1891 under three different captains – Arthur Shrewsbury, Allan Steel and Walter Read when they beat Australia in seven Test series and South Africa once. While, between 2005-08, Australia won the nine Test series under Ricky Ponting beating the World XI side, South Africa, Sri Lanka and West Indies. Virat’s team has defeated Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh, New Zealand, West Indies, England and Sri Lanka twice in the last two years. It all started in 2015 against Sri Lanka. They lost the first match by 63 runs but came back and registered victories in second and third encounters.
After this, they met South Africa in a four-match series at home. India won the first match by 108 runs while the second match ended in a draw. The last two matches they won convincingly and won the series 3-0.
This was followed by Indian team travelling to the Caribbean Islands and beating the home side 2-0 in a four match series. After this, New Zealand came to India only to suffer a 3-0 defeat.
Being in top form India beat England as well, thrashing them 4-0 in a five match series. After this, there was a one-off Test match between India and Bangladesh in which India won by 208 runs. This was followed by India-Australia four-match Test series which India won 2-1 followed by another Test series win against Sri Lanka.
