AIADMK members eat platefuls of eatables during hunger strike

Photos of party members enjoying lavish food during ‘lunch break’ go viral on the social media

The Hush Post: During their hunger strike to protest Centre’s stand on the Cauvery river water dispute, the members of the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party in Tamil Nadu were rather caught having lavish food during ‘lunch break’ and their pictures, having platefuls of either biryani or tomato rice, went viral on the internet and social media.

The ruling AIADMK on Tuesday had held a day-long hunger strike while protesting the Centre’s stand on the Cauvery river water dispute. But it was not their hunger strike but something else that got highlighted on the social media.

Despite Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami and Deputy CM O Pannerselvam taking part in this hunger strike, the social media highlighted the photos of the AIADMK members at Vellore eating platefuls of rice (that a report by The News Minute seems to guess is either biryani or tomato rice) during their ‘lunch break’ went viral on social media and internet, The Indian Express reported on Wednesday.

The hunger strike had been organised to protest against the Central government taking time to form the Cauvery Water Management Board (CMB). “The hunger strike is to condemn the central government for not forming the CMB,” read a statement by the AIADMK, the report said.

The Supreme Court had reportedly set April 9 as the hearing date for Tamil Nadu government’s petition seeking expedition in setting up the CMB. The Centre meanwhile has reportedly asked for a three-month extension to the February 16 order to ensure implementation.

On the social media and internet, photos of the “hunger strike” have gone viral and curious to know whether the day’s menu was biryani or tomato rice, report said.
