M Karunanidhi dies at 94 | Was 5-time CM, and worked in Tamil film industry before

The Hush Post: Five-time chief minister of Tamil Nadu M Karunanidhi passed away a short while back. The DMK patriarch breathed his last at the Kauvery hospital in Chennai on Tuesday evening. He was 94 years old. According to the medical bulletin, the time of death was 6.10 pm. His health had seen a decline in the last one day due to multiple-organ failure. Medics said that despite maximum medical support, he could not be revived. Thousands of Kalaigar’s supporters have gathered outside the Kauvery hospital.

He was in the hospital since July 28. However, about three days ago, those who met Karunanidhi said that his condition had improved but the last 24 hours his health deteriorated.

Famously known as Kalaignar which literally means the artist, he remained in public life for the last about 70 years. Earlier, bis wife, Dalayu Ammal who suffers from memory loss and is confined to her Gopalapuram house had visited the hospital a couple of days back.

Karunanidhi was a long-standing leader of the  Dravidian movement and ten-time president of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. Before entering politics Karunanidhi worked in the Tamil film industry and was also known to be a screeplay writer.

His cremation will take place on August 8. He is survived by six children MK Stalin, Kanomozhi, MK Alagiri, MK Muthu, MK Tamilarasu, and MK Selvi.
