The Hush Post: It was the last day of his service. After putting in 35 years, Paramasivam retired from his job as a driver of Karur, District Collector.
So what happened on the last day? The District Collector sat on the driver’s seat to drive him. T Anbazhagan, took charge of the Tamil Nadu district in March. It was a surprise when Paramasivam drove his wife back home on his last day in the office.
Just when the DC realised that Paramasivam’s last day in the office was nearby come to work after over three decades of service, DC Anbazhagan asked him to bring his wife along with him to the Collector’s office.
After presenting him with a gold coin and a shawl to the husband-wife duo, the bureaucrat sat on the driver’s seat for once and drove them home.
Paramasivam, has driven many cars for bureaucrats over several years of service. He said that this “completely shocked” him when the collector announced that he would be driving him home.
After driving them home, the collector sat for tea with them.
“Their service is really selfless. If a collector works 16 hours a day, they work 18 hours. They have to get ready before the bureaucrat and reach home much later,” said Mr Anbazhagan “I wanted to honour him for his service.”
