The Hush Post: As many as 61 new characters and variants of emojis have been shortlisted by the Unicode Consortium, the organisation that controls emojis. These new emojis would be released next year, 2019.
Giving a go-ahead to diversity, creating a large chunk of those new emoji are 55 characters to represent couples of different genders and skin tones, a report in The Verge said.
A Hindu temple, an auto rickshaw, a service dog, ringed planet, kneeling person, are among the main emojis. Besides, the shortlisted entries include representation of a person with hearing impairment as well, a report said.
The Unicode Consortium said in a blog post that the list of draft candidates will be reviewed and finalised in the next meeting next month, September.
Besides, eight “emoji provisional candidates” for 2020 have also been added which includes ninja, military helmet, mammoth, feather, dodo, magic wand, carpentry saw and a screwdriver, the Unicode Consortium blog post said.
