A 29-year-old man has been arrested by the Hyderabad Police for allegedly stabbing his friend to death with a butcher’s knife. The incident took place on the busy road of Hyderabad’s Nayapul city on Wednesday evening.
A video of the accused, Abdul Khaja attacking Shakeer Qureshi (30), an auto-rickshaw driver with a butcher’s knife repeatedly on his head, shoulders, and neck went viral on social media late in the night. Some onlookers shot the video but did not intervene to stop Khaja from assaulting Qureshi.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police, Khaja was drunk and previous enmity was the motive behind the killing. He said that Khaja had given his auto-rickshaw to Qureshi on rent. He, in turn, gave it to another friend Akeel. When an angry Khaja questioned Qureshi’s decision he allegedly abused him, his mother and sister. “That led to the fight between the two and Khaja, in a fit of rage, killed Qureshi,” police said.
However, the accused was caught within 10 minutes on the spot and has been taken into custody. A case is being registered under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code,” the police said.
Meanwhile, the body of Qureshi has been shifted to Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem.
