The Hush Post: India’s World No 1 men’s badmintion sensation Kidambi Srikanth is the new Deputy Collector (DC) of Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh.
He took the charge from Guntur collector Kona Shashidar. He is not expected to attend the office and will continue to train with the best known face of India’s badminton revolution Pullela Gopichand at his Hyderabad academy.
Before this, women’s Olympics silver medalist in badminton PV Sindhu was also appointed as the Deputy Collector by N Chandrababu Naidu government.
Kidambi Srikanth is a Padma Shri awardee and happens to be one of the first two ever sportspersons to be appointed as Deputy Collectors anywhere in the country.
Till now, most of the sportspersons showing any excellence at the international arena are appointed as bank managers, or get class I appointments in the Indian Railways, airlines or with state governments. Haryana is the state which has kept aside vacancies for sportspersons in the police department. They have particularly treated them well in the past about 10 years. The likes of Vijender Singh, Akhil Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Vikas Krishan, Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat have got prized appointments with various Haryana government departments. However, no one has ever got the kind of posting PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth have been awarded with.
