Minutes after Mecca Masjid blasts verdict, judge resigns

Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) chief, Asaduddin Owaisi was quick to react terming the development “intriguing”.

The Hush Post: The special NIA judge, who delivered the 2007 Mecca Masjid blasts verdict in Hyderabad today, resigned just hours after passing the judgment. According to media reports, Judge K Ravinder Reddy, citing personal reasons, submitted his resignation to Chief Justice of Andhra High court in the evening. He had in his judgment acquitted all the accused in the case.

Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) chief, Asaduddin Owaisi was quick to react terming the development “intriguing”.  Owaisi tweeted, “Judge who gave acquittal to all accused in Mecca Masjid Blast RESIGNS very intriguing and I am surprised with the Lordship decision”.

Earlier in the day, Congress and the BJP were at loggerheads over the judgment. While the Congress questioned the functioning of the NIA under the Modi government, the BJP hit back, saying that the opposition’s party’s “appeasement politics” of “defaming” Hindus has been exposed.

Hyderabad MP and AIMIM president, Asaduddin Owaisi said justice was not done in the case and accused the premier investigation agency of not pursuing the case properly, reported The Indian Express.

The special NIA court, today after 11 years of the Mecca Masjid blast, acquitted the five accused, including Swami Aseemanand due to lack of clinching evidence. Powerful bombs had ripped through Hyderabad’s historic Mecca Masjid, killing nine people and wounding 58.
