The Hush Post: In the 22nd CPI(M) Congress held at Hyderabad, Sita Ram Yechury was re-elected at the General Secretary of the party.
His appointment is being seen as crucial to bringing together the opposition in the run-up to the 2019 Eeneral Elections.
66-year-old Yechury is a son of an engineer father and a government officer mother. He joined Students Federation of India in 1974 and was arrested a year later during Emergency. Later, he was elected thrice as president of Jawahar Lal Nehru University in a single year. He is considered to be the key strategist of most of the coalitions which took place in the past, the Indian pioneer of which, some say, is another CPI(M) leader Har Kishan Singh Surjeet, who is no more.
