Unidentified people killed a temple priest in Jalandhar in the wee hours of Monday morning. 50-year-old Balbir Kumar worked at the Baba Balaknath temple at Kartarpur near Jalandhar.
On Monday morning at 3:30 am, a ‘sevadar’ went to the temple and found a profusely bleeding Kumar, lying on the floor. As he raised hue and cry, people gathered at the spot.
Subsequently, the 108 ambulance service was called and Balbir Kumar was rushed to the civil hospital. He, however, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Tension prevailed in Khatika Mohalla at Sadarpur, the place where the temple is located, after the attack as police visited the spot.
Reports say armed assailants had attacked the priest. The police are yet to ascertain the identity of the assailants.
The police suspect a Jammu-based devotee to be behind the attack. The suspect regularly visited the temple, The Tribune reported citing sources.
