Thailand king marries bodyguard, making her queen; WATCH VIDEO

Thailand king Maha Vajiralongkorn married the deputy head of his personal guard force, on Wednesday. He  gave her the title, Queen Suthida.

Queen Suthida is king Vajiralongkorn’s long-term partner. She has been seen with him in public for many years, though their relationship had never been approved officially.

The special announcement was made in the royal gazette. However, the footage from the wedding ceremony was shown on all Thai television channels.

The king is seen pouring sacred water on the head of Queen Suthida. The couple, then sign a marriage registry. Here’s the video;

Known by the title King Rama X, Vajiralongkorn, 66, he became the constitutional monarch after the death of his father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej. King Bhumibol ruled for 70 years, the longest-reigning monarch in the world and died in 2016.

In 2014, Vajiralongkorn appointed Suthida Tidjai who was a former flight attendant for Thai Airways, as a deputy commander of his bodyguard unit.

In December 2016, the king made Suthida a full general in the Royal Thai Army and the deputy commander of the king’s personal guard in 2017.

He also made her a Thanpuying, a royal title meaning Lady.

Vajiralongkorn has previously been married and divorced three times and has seven children.
