Chennai tourist killed in attack by stone-pelters on Srinagar-Gulmarg highway

The Hush Post: What could have been a mesmerising experience for a father-son duo turned into the worst trip of their lives. A  group of stone pelters in J&K took the life of a 22-year-old tourist R Thirumani from Chennai when nearly half a dozen vehicles were attacked by stone-pelters on the Srinagar-Gulmarg highway on Monday. Thirumani and his father had arrived in Srinagar on Sunday and were on their way to Gulmarg when the incident happened. The victim succumbed to head injuries in Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences at Soura. He had been moved to the hospital at around 10:30 am with serious injuries. He slipped into a coma and died at around 8:30 pm. A 19-year-old Kashmiri girl from Handwara was also injured in a stone-pelting incident.

The stone-pelters were protesting against tStone-pelters attack tourist cab on Srinagar-Gulmarg highway, Chennai resident killed he killing of five Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in an encounter in Shopian on Sunday. The attack on tourists comes just five days after one of the tourists from Mumbai had  sustained head injuries in a similar attack in south Kashmir. Last week, a child had been injured when stone-pelters had hurled stones at a school bus in Shopian. There were more than 50 children on the bus, including nursery students of a private school.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti went to the police hospital in Srinagar after she was informed of Thirumani’s death. She met the parents of the man.
