Fateh Veer Singh Guram, Travel @ The Hush Post: India’s premier skiing destination, Auli is located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The town is located at an average elevation of around 2,800 metres, and lies on the way to the pilgrimage site of Badrinath. Its proximity to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Valley of Flowers makes Auli an ideal place to base out of.
The Uttarakhand State Tourism Department conducts various skiing competitions in winters, and the town also hosted the first South Asian Winter Games (along with Dehradun) in 2011.
Places to Visit:
A picturesque location from where you can get stunning views of Nanda Devi, Trishul and Dron peaks, this meadow is located at a height of nearly 3,000 metres above sea level. Surrounded by oak trees, this meadow is near Chattarkund, which has crystal clear waters and is a popular tourist attraction of Auli.
A paradise for trekkers, this meadow is located at an altitude of 3,300 metres. Apart from providing some breathtaking views of the snow capped peaks of the Himalayas, this meadow also offers a serene and peaceful atmosphere to visitors.
It is located at a distance of 13 kilometres from Auli.
A small crystalline lake near Auli, this lake is a relatively untouched attraction. A small dirt trail leads to the lake as a proper path has not been constructed.
The lake is present amidst a huge meadow and is surrounded by dense forests of oak trees.
A prominent religious centre, Joshimath is home to one of the four cardinal piths, ordained by Adi Shankara. Joshimath, along with being a prominent place of worship, also serves as a base for treks into the Valley of Flowers. Devotees also go to Badrinath via Joshimath.
Best Time to Visit:
Since Auli is primarily a skiing destination, it sees a lot of visitors in the months of December and January, when a thick layer of snow envelopes the town and its surrounding areas. The temperature during the winters plummets to -8 degrees Celsius, while in the summers, it hovers around 12-15 degrees Celsius.
This tiny Himalayan skiing destination can be visited all year round.

The nearest railway station is in Rishikesh, which is located 260 kilometres away. The nearest airport is in Dehradun, located 290 kilometres away.
