The Hush Post: Instead of Mcleodganj in Dharamshala, where the Tibet government-in-exile resides, the Miss Tibet Pageant 2018 this year will be held in New York. Applications for the event have been invited online and the last date for filing the form is March 31. Tibetan showman and the proprietor of the event, Lobsang Wangyal, said in a post on the Pageant’s website, “We have partnered with Engage Entertainment, which will be producing and directing the pageant in New York in June 2018.”
The contest was started by Logsang Wangyal more than a decade ago in an effort to highlight the issue of Tibet but it failed to attract participants and sponsors initially. The much-awaited annual show has been organised in McLeod Ganj for the last 15 years. Earlier, the event managed to get only two or three participants which increased slowly and reached nine, the largest number to participate, in the 2017 pageant held in Mcleodganj. On four occasions there was only one woman showing up for the pageant. The contestants also got the blessings of the Dalai Lama last year. Tibetan girls settled across the globe participate in the event.
