The Hush Post: A student of medicine from Haryana, Manushi Chhillar is the new Miss World 2017. She outshone beauties from over 108 countries. Manushi was crowned in the Sanya City Arena in People’s Republic of China. Miss World 2016 winner Puerto Rico’s Stephanie Del Valle placed the coveted tiara on the new title holder Manushi.
Chillar is the sixth Miss World from India. Born to doctorate parents, she got her education from St Thomas School, Delhi and Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women, Sonepat. She represented Haryana at the Femina Miss India 2017 and competed with 29 contestants from other states and Delhi. Her father Dr Mitra Basu Chillar is a scientist at DRDO and mother Dr Neelam Chillar is the head of the department of Neuro-chemistry at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences.
Manushi is a Kuchipudi dancer and has trained under legendary dancers Raja and Radha Reddy. She has also been part of National School of Drama.
Before Chillar, Reita Faria, Ashwariya Rai, Priyanka Chopra, Diana Hayden, and Yukta Mookhey are the other Miss World winners from India. In an interview she had earlier said,”As a child, I always wanted to participate in the competition but I never knew I would make it this far.” After the Miss India World 2017 title, she used her fame for a noble cause, and began an initiative to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene.
