Alice Guram Travel@ The Hush Post: India still boasts of having some cities with British names – and one such city is Lansdowne tucked away in Uttarakhand. The city owes its name to Lord Lansdowne, the Viceroy of India in the year 1888. This quiet unspoiled hill station is a small cantonment town 40 km after Kotdwara, 250 km from Delhi. During the last 40 km of the journey, you climb at the height of 1,500 meters, and are surrounded by thick oak and blue pine trees.

These days Garhwal Rifles of the Indian Army has its command office here. Lansdowne is one of the quietest hill stations of India and is popular since British came to India.
