In a shocking incident, a 15-year-old girl allegedly set herself afire in her house after her parents did not allow her to attend the ‘baraat’ (marriage procession) of her cousin. The incident took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Modi Nagar on Monday morning.
According to police, the parents of the girl did not allow her to go to the marriage as only male members were allowed to go in the wedding procession. Upset, she skipped her dinner on Sunday and the next morning, in a fit of rage, set herself on fire after pouring kerosene kept in the kitchen, the police said.
Also, two months ago, the girl was allegedly harassed by a man. A case was registered in this connection. “The suspect was arrested and sent to jail,” Upendra Kumar Agrawal, Senior Superintendent of police, said. Meanwhile, her family claimed that her suicide had nothing to do with this incident.
However, the girl’s father has given it in writing that the girl killed herself out of anger. He said that he did not want to file a case.
