The Hush Post: Registering an FIR on a buffalo for damaging crops to jailing donkeys, Uttar Pradesh police, you have to believe, carries the reputation of doing something as bizarre as this in future as well. On Monday, the district jail in Orai saw something as strange as eight donkeys first “jailed” for four days in the prison and then let off, after a “recommendation” from a local BJP leader. These donkeys had been imprisoned by Jail Superintendent Sita Ram Sharma, who lost his cool on the four-legged animals after they chewed up costly plants brought by the prison authorities for plantation inside the jail premises.
The owner of the donkeys apparently made many requests to prison authorities to let go the donkeys but to no avail. He then went to a local neta in Uttar Pradesh and sought relief. It was only when Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) leader Shakti Gahoi asked the cop to let the donkeys go were they released. With a ruling party leader making the request, the prison official immediately signed the “release orders.” According to IANS reports, ‘locals were amused to see donkeys walk out of the prison gates rather than men.’ But then, this is Uttar Pradesh police who in the past at a different place had registered an FIR against a buffalo for damaging crops to protect the owner.
