The Hush Post: After nation-wide rage over the rape of an 18-year old girl in Uttar Pradesh by BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday questioned the MLA for around 17 hours on Friday and arrested him in late hours the same day.
He was picked up for questioning from Indiranagar residence of his relative in Lucknow at 4 am on Friday and the CBI team took him into custody at around 9.45 pm. His family said he had planned to leave for Varanasi for a visit to Kal Bhiarav temple at the time the CBI came swooping down on him.
The action by CBI came after the Allahabad High court ordered earlier in the day that the MLA should be arrested ‘forthwith’.
“The rape victim and her family have reportedly been called to Lucknow on Saturday,” said a CBI source.
The CBI was referred the matter on Thursday which took immediate action by re-registering the UP Police FIRs. According to rules, the CBI re-registers FIRs of the state police while taking over the probe but remains at freedom to come to its own conclusions which are filed before a special court in its final report. The final report can either be a closure report or a chargesheet.
According to the CBI press release, three separate FIRs have been registered, one about the alleged rape of the girl in which Sengar and a woman Shashi Singh had been named as accused. The second one was about rioting, and the alleged killing of the victim’s father in judicial custody.
The third case deals with allegations against the survivor’s father who was arrested under Arms Act and put in jail by the local police.
